Modular Cinema

For twenty years, one idea: a film assembled from interchangeable parts, where the viewer's path — or a program's throw of the dice — composes the cut, so no two viewings are ever the same. It began in 2003 with A Space of Time and runs through four films.

Where the method began. A vast library of moments set inside a century-old building, assembled by algorithm into a film that is different every viewing — variable cinema two decades before generative AI.

Accidental Occurrence Desenlace Accidental

Two lives converge on a single accident. A program rebuilds the film anywhere from five to seventy minutes, drawing a different cut each time from the same fateful day.

An Andean descent in virtual reality — more than 700 versions in 8K with ambisonic sound, drawn from Andean cosmology. Made with the Universidad de Cuenca.
